GOAL Mile set for National Indoor Arena on December 18th

The goal mile is set to be held in the National Indoor Arena on December 18th. The charity event will be held around Ireland, however, this is one of the few where participants can be guaranteed to be warm and dry!

Event organised David Matthews was in an upbeat mood when talking to us about the event. “I can guarantee it’ll be dry, and warm, I think its the only a mile race in Ireland where we can guarantee there won’t be rain!! There will be 8 laps of the indoor track. Bring the family, its a great opportunity to walk/Jog/run indoors. The GOAL Team will be there and on hand to help. This is open to everyone, and we’ll have mile starting every 20mins form 5pm till 8pm”.

The event is free to all to take part, however, people can make charitable donations to GOAL on the night.

The event takes part from 5PM to 8PM in the National Sports Campus. For those who don’t know their way, here is a link to its location -> https://www.google.com/maps?q=national+indoor+arena&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjmlOKk_YnmAhUHQ8AKHeEPDRsQ_AUoAXoECA4QAw

About the Goal Mile

GOAL Miles are held at Christmas in villages, towns and cities right across Ireland. Now in its 36th year, the event sees tens of thousands of participants run, jog or walk a Mile and raise funds and awareness for GOAL’s programmes in the developing world. One of the country’s most popular annual events, the GOAL Mile has become an integral part of Christmas for thousands of families. Each individual Mile event is run by one or more local organisers. It is largely because of their support and hard work that the GOAL Mile has become such a success.

The GOAL Mile was established in 1982 when GOAL’s late chairperson and international athlete, Noel Carroll, came up with the idea to encourage people and their families to run a mile at The Phoenix Park on Christmas morning for GOAL.

Much to everyone’s delight, more than 250 people turned up. The event transferred to Belfield, UCD, the following year and from there, it flourished to become one of the most popular and longstanding annual fundraising events in the country. Major Mile events in Dublin, Galway and Cork attract thousands of participants each year, while new GOAL Miles locations are added each year. Last year, Miles were held at more than 130 locations across the country. Since that first Mile back in 1982, those organising, running or walking a GOAL Mile have helped raise millions of euro for GOAL’s various humanitarian programmes across the developing world.
