Christmas parkruns & Operation Transformation

Christmas parkruns

Christmas parkrun

Its nearly Christmas, which means its nearly New Years which means, for many people, its nearly time for the annual purge of body fat, austere diets, military exercise routines and deprivation of joy! But it doesnt have to be that way! At parkrun, there is an emphasis on working on fitness and getting out and active all year round. This is why parkrun is on every Saturday of the year. It doesnt have to be Olympic distances in the Summer months and cake,ice-cream and couches in the winter. You can have your cake and your parkrun all year round. By maintaining the routine of completing 5km every Saturday you can build on that to go further when your lifestyle permits or keep 5km as the target if you’re not quite at peak fitness. Dont wait til the purge after Christmas, parkrun is on this Saturday and every Saturday until into the New Year. Yes, that includes St Stephens’ day!
Transform!
Ok, Ok, if you want to wait until the New Year – Operation Transformation will be coming to Athlone parkrun in January!! We hope to support the Westmeath participant in every way we can and also encourage anyone else who has decided to make a healthy habit. We are looking for one person in particular to help us out and be parkrun Athlone’s ambassador for Operation Transformation. This is less of an epic deed than it sounds. Ask yourself – have you started exercising in recent times? Do you feel better for it? Do you enjoy parkrun? Then you could be our ambassador! the ambassador meets the Westmeath participant every week for 5 weeks at parkrun and walks/ runs the course with them. The aim is to encourage them and to provide the moral support and a few “fair plays” to keep them going!
check out Operation Transformations’ Webpage for food & advice!

If you are available from the 16th of January for this special role, please let us know:
