After an action-packed opening day at the European Athletics U18 Championships in Banska Bystrica which saw fourteen Irish athletes, with several of them qualifying for the semi-finals.
Ben Sykes advanced to the 100m final after setting two personal bests. Conor Kelly looked strong in the 400m, winning his heat, and Maria Zakharenko moved on in the women’s 400m. Orlaith Mannion progressed in the 100m hurdles, while Tara O’Connor and Siun Quinn qualified for the high jump final.
Enya Silkena performed well in the heptathlon, achieving personal bests in multiple events. Cian Crampton secured his place in the discus final.
