Father Collins parkrun – Event number 148 – 21st July 2018

How quickly the week turns itself around, the good weather, kids off school and thoughts of a nice weekend stretching ahead meant everyone was in fine form for parkrun 148. None more so than run director Phil, who has taken up triathlons with a bang and managed a cool 90 kms cycle before landing onsite to oversee set up, take charge of the event and welcome a special guest; none other than the Lord Mayor himself Nial Ring. Nial has run at St Anne’s and at Fairview parkrun before but this was his first visit to Father Collins.

Phil ably showed him around pointing out the features such as the waterless waterfall, the swans and giving him some pointers for getting around the course as quickly as he could. While Phil was giving the guided tour his long suffering missus Yvonne hawked our battered IKEA trolley around the course and laid out the arrows and the signs as she had signed up for pre-event set up. This is a great role to volunteer in as you can still participate in parkrun. Please feel free to drop us an email or a message on Facebook as we love getting volunteer emails!

A MASSIVE thanks to our amazing volunteers: Yvonne CLARKE • Rachel MARKEY • Alan BROWNE • Witek LOCHOWSKI • Roberto ROMANO • Phil CLARKE • Laura SULLIVAN • Avril SULLIVAN • Anton SWEENEY • Adrienne DELANEY • Ita O’HANLON

This week 67 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 6 were first timers and 11 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 8 different clubs took part – well done to all.

The idea of an athletics club can be intimidating as can club races but there were some familiar faces toe-ing the line at Raheny Shamrocks summer race on Tuesday nights. Every Tuesday the club organises a two mile road race. It may be of interest to some. What might also be of interest to some of our regular runners is the opportunity to participate in some parkrun tourism.

I visited the lovely friendly Griffeen parkrun just a short hop, skip and a jump away on the m50. For those who may prefer tourism even closer to home the aforementioned Raheny Shamrock AC are taking over St Anne’s parkrun with club members filling every volunteer role including pacers for every minute from 19 up to 38 minuets. If you fancy a crack at a PB St Anne’s may well be the place to give it a whirl! There will be lots of spot prizes too and a familiar face as our own event director Alan will be stepping up for his running club and doing the first timers briefing.

Today’s full results and a complete event history can be found on the Father Collins parkrun Results Page but well done again to all who participated and a special nod to the following who managed a PB.
