U20 Ireland Team's Akpe-Moses and Osas Lead the Charge on Day 1 in Mannheim

With seven athletes competing in various track events, including hurdles, sprints, and 400m heats, the day was filled with solid performances and promising results from up and coming athletes.

Saturday, June 22nd, marked the opening day of the Bauhaus Junioren Gala in Mannheim, Germany. Seven of the seventeen athletes on the U20 team took to the track on the first day for Team Ireland.
First up was Leevale AC athlete Sean Carmody in the 110m Hurdles. He ran a strong race, finishing 4th with a time of 14.28, just four hundredths of a second shy of his personal best of 14.24 recorded in Santry back in May. However, this was not enough to qualify him for the final.
Precious Akpe-Moses was one of two Irish athletes competing in the 100m event. She ran an impressive season's best of 11.82 in her heat, finishing 5th and securing a spot in the final. In the final, she again finished 5th with a time of 11.85.
The second Irish athlete in the 100m, this time in the men's event, was Ratoath AC athlete Jesse Osas. He ran a solid race, finishing 3rd with a time of 10.74. In the final, he ran marginally quicker with a time of 10.72, finishing a respectable 4th, just missing out on a podium place.
Finally, four Irish athletes competed in the 400m timed heats. Connor Kelly was the highest ranked among the Irish contingent, recording a time of 48.07 to place 5th. Sean Doggett ran a time of 48.99, placing 13th, and Adam Courtney ran a time of 49.46, ranking 16th overall. Maria Zakharenko competed in the women's event, running a time of 56.73 and ranking 16th as well.
