April proved to be a busy month with alot of races on over various distances. The first of these was the new 5 mile race organised by Dooneen at limerick racecourse. It was strongly supported by West Limerick with 10 athletes taking part. Our men won the team event. There were many good performances but it was great to see Willie Costello taking part. Seamus Toomey and Jeni O Regan also ran well.
[ads1]George O Sullivan has had an active race year and he ran in the Liscarroll 5k while Jeni O Regan came 2nd lady in the Clanwilliam 5k.
The Ballybunion run incorporated a 5k,10k and half marathon. We had 6 members take part with Antoinette Breen in the 10k and John Burke 40.24 for 10k both running very well.
Onto Kenmare next where there was a 5k and 10k. The McDomhnaill clan cleaned up with Fiachra winning the 10k and Carmel 2nd in the 5k. The twins Sorcha and Ide put in great performances on the day also.
In the Juvenille Grace O Donnell was putting in pbs over the 400m.
Up in Connemara were Derek and David Wrenne for the Connemarathon. One of the most challenging and picturesque marathons on our island.
The Great Ireland run was also the national 10k championship. This was televised on RTE and it was great to catch a glimpse of Carmel finishing with the lead men , she won her category on the same day. Fiachra ran an excellent 34.39 in tough conditions. Conor Lovett also ran.
In Ballysteen Sean Mc won the 5k race and Sheila Clavin was 1st home in the 10k.
New mens Captain for 2016 Deckan Guina was in Boherbue for a famous 4 mile and set a new pb of 24.01. He would go on to run very well throughout 2015.
A great team effort from West Limerick ladies to finish 3rd team in the Kinaboy 10 mile race. The team was Sheila, Jeni,Edel and Mary Folan-Ryan.
We hosted a 5 mile feet on the street. This course was around the challenging Dually route. Ger Guina was in fine form finishing in first with Patrick Quinn of Ennis Track second. Carmel was first lady home. It was a well attended race and there was a good presence from Denis Fitzgerald and the Fit4life group.
Siobhan Kelly made her comeback in April and was 1st lady in the Desmond College 5k.
In the multisport there was the Joey Hannon Tri with club members Carolyn Hayes and Mike Hedderman both doing well.
