Jake O’Regan (St Johns AC) and Anne Marie McGlynn (Strabane AC) have won the 2025 National Half Marathon Championships. Held in conjunction with the Bord na Mona Tullamore Half Marathon, 699 men and 472 ladies took part in the event.
Jake O’Regan (St John’s AC), tipped to be the favourite in the men’s event, ran true to form and clocked 67.25 over a minute and half ahead of Patrick McColl (Road Runners), who crossed the line in 69minutes. The St Johns AC athlete has produced some good races this year winning the Cork City Half Marathon in June in dismal conditions. Today’s conditions were a bit on the windy side with some rain but thankfully were void of the downpour suggested by the weather forecasts. O’Regan finished 21st in last years Dublin City Marathon with a time of 2.33, a time he was not altogether satisfied with. His form suggests he is in a position to better that this year. Marathons being marathons, its all about what happens on the day. Matthew Kane (Rathfarnham WSA AC) took third place in 70:48.
The men’s team title went to Clane AC. Led home by Terry Shanley (71.55), he was followed by Stephen Conroy (72.34) and Brian Conroy (74.12). Tullamore Harriers were runners up with Mullingar Harriers in third.
The ladies pre-race favourite was Ann-Marie McGlynn (Strabane AC) who did not disappoint her supportive and delighted fans. The 2024 National marathon and Senior Cross-Country winner crossed the line in a time of 75.10 to take her first national half marathon title. Caithlyn Harvey (Roadrunners AC) was runner-up with a time of 79.31 with Noureen Brouder (Sportsworld AC) in 3rd clocking 81.15. McGlynn is a Tullamore native and rose to the enthusiasm of the crowd right throughout the race, expressing her joy to race and win on home territory in the aftermath of the race. Like O’Regan she too will focus on the upcoming Dublin City Marathon.
Liffey Valley AC won the ladies team title with Mollie O’Donnell leading them home in 84.35. She was supported by Ciara Broderick Farrell and Cliodhna Tutty Bardon. Mullingar Harriers were second with St Finbarrs third.
