Isreal Olatunde sets a new National Record
Isreal Olatunde (Tallaght AC) set a new national 100m record at the Be Fast Today Track Academy meet in London. Running 10.08 seconds he knocked .04 seconds off the existing record. While it may be too late for the World Championships in Tokyo, Olatunde has achieved the qualifying standard for the European Track and Field Championships in Birmingham in August 2026.
Fogarty takes the Danish League Shot Putt win
Niamh Fogarty (Raheney Shamrocks AC) was back in action again at Køge Stadium in Denmark. Competing in the shot putt at the Danish League she threw 14.10m to take first place. The Westmeath native recently threw a lifetime best of 15.08m also in Denmark.
Manchester International
Lana Sutton competing for Brighton and Hove AC was recently selected to compete for Ireland at the Para World Championships in India. In a final competition to test her readiness for her World Championships debut, she took part in the Manchester International. Competing in the 100m and 200m, Sutton was victorious in both events. She clocked 27.6 in the 200m and 12.83 (wind assisted) in the 100m.
Monument Mile Classic
At the monument mile classic held at the University of Stirling Track in Scotland, Phillip Marron (DCH) finished 8th in the main event of the evening “The Emsley Carr Mile”. Marron has had a breakthrough season setting personal bests over the mile and 1500m both indoor and outdoor. In Stirling he ran 3:59.45 just 1.5 seconds outside his personal best which he set at the Cork City Sports in July of this year. The winner of the race was Henry McLuckie (GB) in 3:53.99 which was a meet record. McLuckie previously won the 3000m at this years Cork City Sports – recording a personal best. Kevin McGrath (Bohermeen) ran 4:07.94 to finish 7th in the B race. Robert Crowley (SLOT) took 9th in the C race with a time of 4:15.50.
National Half Marathon
A superbly organized National Half Marathon was run in conjunction with the Tullamore Half. The local club are known for their ability to host well run events. The winners were Jake O’Regan (St Johns AC) in the mens event with Tullamore native Ann Marie McGylnn (Strabane AC) taking the ladies title amid thunderous applause and support from the local spectators.
The team title went to the Clane AC trio of Terry Shanley (winner of the over 35 individual title), Stephen Conroy (runner-up over 35) and Brian Conroy. The ladies event was won by Liffey Valley AC with Mollie O’Donnell, Ciara Broderick Farrell and Cliodhna Tutty Bardon completing the line up.
