The NCAA Division II cross country season reaches an important stage this Saturday, November 7th, with Irish athletes preparing for conference championship races across the United States.
With the majority of Division I conference championships completed last weekend, attention now turns to Division II, where athletes will be competing for individual honours, team titles and momentum ahead of the regional championships later this month.
Danny Nugent and Claragh Keane are among the Irish athletes expected to feature, while Matthew O'Shea and Laura McConville could also be involved for their respective universities.
Here is a look at the Irish interest across Saturday's meetings.
Nugent Aiming to Continue Impressive First Season
Danny Nugent, of Ace AC in County Louth, is expected to feature prominently at the South Atlantic Conference Championships this weekend.
The Drogheda runner represents Lenoir Rhyne University, which competes at the Wingate Cross Country Course in North Carolina.
Nugent has enjoyed an impressive introduction to American collegiate cross country, regularly leading his university across the line during his opening season.
His most recent performance came at the UAH Chargers XC Invitational in Huntsville, Alabama, on October 24th.
Competing against a field of 460 runners, Nugent finished 33rd in the men's 8km in 24:34.9, recording his fastest time of the season over the distance.
He was the first Lenoir Rhyne athlete home as the university finished tenth out of 40 teams.
Earlier in September, Nugent finished eighth at the Queen City Invitational in 25:09.7, earning the South Atlantic Conference Men's Runner of the Week award.
He followed that performance with 11th place at the Converse Kickoff, recording 25:11.8.
Saturday's conference championships will provide another opportunity for Nugent to test himself against some of the leading Division II runners in the region.
Wingate University enters as the defending conference champion and the reigning NCAA Division II men's national champion, making it a particularly competitive meeting.

Keane Targets Strong Finish at Rocky Mountain Championships
Claragh Keane, of DMP AC in County Wexford, is expected to represent Adams State University at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships in Rapid City, South Dakota.
The championships take place at Hart Ranch Golf Club, with the women's 6km scheduled for 5:15pm Irish time.
Keane has been a regular contributor to the Adams State team this season and enters the championships following an encouraging performance at the Arturo Barrios Invitational in Texas on October 16th.
The Wexford athlete finished 64th in 20:44.0, completing the university's scoring five as Adams State placed fifth overall against a competitive field that included several Division I universities.
Earlier in the season, Keane finished second at the Joe I. Vigil Open in Colorado, clocking 17:52.5 over 5km as Adams State filled the first seven places.
She also enters Saturday's race with previous conference championship experience, having earned Second Team All Conference honours in 2025.
Adams State was ranked second in the conference's preseason coaches' poll, just one point behind Colorado School of Mines, and will be hoping to challenge for the team title.
The women's race promises to be highly competitive, with several nationally ranked Division II programmes involved.
