The NCAA cross country season continued on Friday October 2nd and Saturday October 3rd, with two Irish athletes competing at the Paul Short Run in Pennsylvania and the SU Showdown in Texas.
With both meetings offering another test over 6km, here is how the Irish runners got on and what their performances meant for their universities in the team standings.
Nestor Helps Rice to Second at SU Showdown
Susie Nestor counted among Rice University’s five scoring runners at the SU Showdown in Georgetown, Texas, on Saturday October 3rd.
The UCD AC athlete finished 14th in the women’s 6km in 23:52.7, according to the official results published on TFRRS. She was Rice’s fifth finisher and contributed 14 points to the team total.
Rice took 2nd place among 13 teams with 39 points, finishing just four behind winners Midwestern State University. With Alex Gobran winning the individual race, Rice’s five scorers occupied 1st, 6th, 8th, 10th and 14th.

Thornton Scores for Dartmouth at Paul Short
Emmy Thornton was Dartmouth College’s second finisher at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on Friday October 2nd.
The Willowfield Harriers athlete completed the women’s College Gold 6km in 22:12.3 to finish 106th. She contributed 106 points as one of Dartmouth’s five scoring runners.
Dartmouth finished 22nd among 37 teams with 610 points. Liberty University won the team contest with 115 poin
The Gold and Open races were completed before rising temperatures forced organisers to cancel the afternoon’s Brown, White and Green races. That cancellation affected Kate Connolly, the St Michael’s AC athlete entered for Wagner College in the women’s Brown 6km, leaving her without a race result from the meeting.
