How to Watch Irish Athletes on Day One of the European U18 Athletics Championships

The European Athletics U18 Championships get underway in Rieti, Italy this morning, with Ireland's next generation of athletics talent beginning their bid for international success across four days of competition.

A 25 strong Irish team has been selected for the championships, with athletes competing across the track, field, race walks and combined events. Day one features plenty of Irish interest, including Lucie Cawley and Ally Duffy in the 2000m steeplechase, three Irish athletes in the 400 metres, Tara Laverty in the discus, and Emer Purtill beginning her two day heptathlon campaign. Several of the team arrive in excellent form after standout performances during the domestic season and will be hoping to make a strong start in Italy.
