TOKYO UPDATE
After a bit of a scare at the start where she survived a "twitch" on the blocks, Lavin came through the second half of her hurdles race with her predictable finishing speed. Finishing third, she will go through to the semi-finals tomorrow.
Background
Sarah Lavin is by now a familiar figure at major championships. The Emerald AC athlete has competed in indoor and outdoor majors along with world relay events since 2011 where she competed in the World Youths in Moscow. 14 years on the international circuit and that list has become quite lengthy. With her on her long international journey has been her coach Noelle Morrissey.
Lavin has won 10 National Senior 100m hurdles titles and seven 60m hurdles indoor titles. She has a silver European medal from the European u20 Championships back in 2013 and a bronze from the EYOF in 2012. At senior level her best placings have been a fourth place at the European Indoors in Apeldoorn earlier this year and a fifth place at the World Indoors in Glasgow in 2024. She was also 5th at the European Track and Field in Munich in 2022. Earlier this year in London, she was part of the Irish 4x100 quartet that broke the long standing relay record. The Limerick native has made six major senior championship finals. Tokyo will be her third World Championships.
