Monaghan Phoenix Marathon Festival Returns to Rossmore Park This Weekend

Monaghan Phoenix AC is bringing its marathon festival back to Rossmore Forest Park this weekend, with three races across Saturday September 26th and Sunday September 27th. Runners can choose a 10K, a half marathon or the full marathon, with entries starting at €25.

For those building towards Dublin City Marathon, Sunday’s half marathon offers a chance to test their pacing and fuelling in race conditions. Others can take on the full 42.2 kilometres or make a morning of the 10K among the trees.

When Are the Races?

The 10K starts at 10am on Saturday September 26th. The half marathon and marathon both begin at 9am on Sunday September 27th, with race headquarters in the main car park at Rossmore Forest Park, outside Monaghan town.

The organisers say the event has an Athletics Ireland permit and a measured course. All three races will be chip timed. Finishers can expect a bespoke medal and a technical T shirt, while refreshments are planned along the course and after the races.

Monaghan Phoenix AC celebrated its 50th anniversary at last year’s festival. This time the focus is on another weekend of club racing, with a distance to suit runners sharpening up for an autumn goal and those taking on their biggest challenge of the year.

How Much Does It Cost to Enter?

Entry is €25 for the 10K, €30 for the half marathon and €45 for the marathon. The registration page lists the online entry deadline as 12.45pm on Friday September 25th. The organisers advise booking early in case places fill before then.

What Should Runners Know Before Travelling?

Race numbers can be collected at the main car park in Rossmore Forest Park on the morning of each race. Parking inside the park is limited, so the organisers suggest using the nearby retail park at H18 HY03. From there, it is approximately 1.5km to the start.

Allow time for that walk and for number collection, particularly if you are running one of Sunday’s 9am races. Then it is down to the running, with Rossmore’s forest paths waiting and a well earned feed at the finish.
