WMTRC Day Three Recap: Wynne Leads Ireland Through Gruelling 5,413m Climb

Day three of the World Mountain & Trail Running Championships served up the week’s fiercest challenge: an 81 km route with 5,413 m of climbing that began in darkness at 6 a.m. local time and demanded relentless effort well into the afternoon.

In the men’s race, Ricki Wynne produced a gutsy run to place 85th in 11:23:16. Patrick O’Leary battled the same brutal climbs to reach the line 109th in 12:13:32. Cillian Fleming unfortunately withdrew shortly after the half way point.

Aoife Mundow brought Ireland’s women’s challenge home in fine style, completing the gruelling distance in 14:58:49 for 88th place.
