National Masters Indoor Championships. Athlone.
Ber Spillane was the sole Moyne AC athlete to represent the club at the National Masters Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Athlone on Saturday last. Competing in Womens 40 category in 60m, 200m and 400m Ber recorded PB’s in all three events just reward for all the hard work she has out in over the pre Christmas season. First up was the 60m final at 10am, drawn in lane five ber powered down the track to record a new PB of 8.55s and a bronze medal to show for her efforts. Next up was the 200m at 1.15pm while a podium finish eluded her on this occasion a new PB of 28.79s, two pb’s out of two events and 400m yet to come at 4.30pm. Ber duly obliged with a perfect performance taking the silver medal 65.98s{2nd} and a hat trick of PB’s to round off a great day of running
Managing three events in one day takes quite a bit of organizing on an athletes behalf, no doubt Ber has mastered this phase of competition and can look forward with confidence to the remainder of the season. Hard graft and confidence are now part of her daily training routine and its beginning to pay off. Best of luck for the rest of the season Ber from all in Moyne AC.
NIA Live Abbottstown. Juvenile Indoor Track & Field.
January sees the indoor season back under way, and this was the first week of action for juvenile athletes, with just one athlete competing this week. On Wednesday, Meadhbh Hall travelled to the National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown to compete in an open event. Meadhbh ran out of age in the u12 60m, with a great new PB of 9.77s. She followed this up with a brave run in the u12 600m (2.11.12), a new distance for her. We look forward to seeing more juvenile athletes getting their indoor season underway in the coming weeks.
Congrats Meadhbh.
National Indoor T&F League Round 2. Athlone.
Katie Bergin got her indoor season off to a flying start in Athlone on Sunday at Round Two of the National Indoor T&F League. Setting a new PB in the 60m 7.63s in Series One she returned to the track thirty minutes later in Series Two of 60m and recorded the exact same time of 7.63s. finishing third overall to National champion of ’23 Sarah Leahy Killarney Valley. Later in the evening it was the 200m another indoor PB performance 24.47s.
Next weekend Katie will return to Athlone for the National U/23 Indoor T&F Championship Finals, she will contest both 60m and 200m and has to defend both her titles won in 2023. Three hundreds of a second seperates the first three in the 60m, so it promises to be a fiercely contested event, but no doubt will relish the challenge. Heats will be the order of the day in the 200m also, 60m heats get under way at 10am.
