Couch to 5K season is well underway as many people begin their running journey this January. In Blessington, the Lakeshore Striders are kicking off their 12-week Couch to 5K program tonight!
Run Republic spoke to club member Deirdre back in August and so, we caught up with her to talk about the program as well as other positive news emerging from the club for 2024.
'We've just over 30 people beginning a new process into running with some returning members from previous years too.'
Deirdre hinted at how successful the clubs Couch to 5K program is wen she told us that 'several members that started Couch to 5K last year are running the Dungarvan 10 Miler in February, and the Bohermeen Half Marathon in March'. This is great progress that should inspire other people to begin their own Couch to 5K journey in 2024.
Aside from the Couch to 5K program, the club has some real momentum behind it with many members participating in massive races around the country in the coming weeks and months.
Deirdre outlined that some of the clubs hill runners are gearing towards the first locally held IMRA race, the Brockagh Burst, on Sunday 21st Jan.
As well as this, members are training for the Art O'Neill Challenge which is a 60km route on road and open mountain!
Five club members are running the Donadea 50K in February too, completing a busy schedule for the Blessington club.
If you are looking to get involved with a club and are local to Blessington, there is no better time to join the Lakeshore Striders!
