Ulster Schools Cross-Country
The Ulster Schools took place in Belfast on Wednesday amid windy and at times drizzly conditions. The senior boys produced one of the most contested races of the day with Frank Buchannan (St Michaels, Enniskillen) outsprinting Finn Diver (St Malachy’s Belfast) over the closing stages. Odhran McBrearty got the better of Harry McKenzie in the Intermediate boys which paves the way for one of the most exciting and competitive races for places for the Irish team for the SIAB International.
Elsa Moore (Royal and Prior Raphoe) proved to be no match for Mairi Clements (Coleraine GS) in the Senior girls. Emer McKee (our Lady and St Pats Knock) the winner of the Intermediate girls is setting herself up for her potential first encounter with Freya Renton at the All-Ireland Schools next month in Galway.
Overall the Enniskillen Schools did very well with Mount Lourdes taking the minor and junior gold and bronze intermediate titles in the girls. While St Michaels, Enniskillen finished 3rd in the minor, 2nd in the Junior, 3rd in the Inter boys and 2nd in the senior boys. St Malachy’s won their nineteenth title in the Junior Boys and later claiming the senior boys gold. St Colman’s Newry were another very successful school, winning the minor and Inter boys and claiming bronze in the senior. Click below to read the full report.
