Munster 4 Mile Glory: Dundrum AC Shine with Stellar Performances

MUNSTER 4 MILE ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Munster 4 Mile Road Championships were held on Sunday, March 3. Our club hosted the race and it was great success with our village being an ideal central location for athletes to travel to. There was 82 women and 94 men who competed. The weather was ideal with a crisp spring day and only a few drops of rain. The races incorporated the Senior, Novice and Masters Championships together. In the women's race we had 7 compete. Dymphna Ryan went to the front from the get go with only one other athlete with her for the first mile. She went clear in the latter half of the race and won the women's race overall with over a minute's lead. She won Gold in the Senior and O40 categories. Linda Grogan also had a great race to place 8th overall, 8th Senior, 5th Novice and won Bronze in the O40. She was followed by 29th Catherine Fogarty (21st Novice, 26th Senior and won Bronze in the O45), 41st Tish Ryan (32nd Novice, 36th Senior and 12th O40), 54th Emily Leahy (42nd Novice, 44th Senior and 14th O40), 57th Mairead Julian (44th Novice, 47th Senior and 8th O45), 62nd Denise Compton (47th Novice, 50th Senior and 4th O55). The club team was 5th in the Novice and won Silver in the Senior and Gold in the O35 category. Linda was on the county team that won Silver in the Novice. Dymphna and Linda were both on the county team that won Silver in the Senior and Gold in the O35 category. Denise was on the county team that won Silver in the O50 category. In the men's race we had 10 compete. First home for the club was 36th Tom O'Connell (26th Novice, 31st Senior and 4th O35). He was followed by 41st Philly O'Dwyer (30th Novice, 36th Senior), 53rd Eamonn Morrissey (42nd Novice, 46th Senior), 56th Gerry O'Neill (45th Novice, 49th Senior and 17th O40), 66th Martin Keane (54th Novice, 54th Senior and 20th O40), 69th Darren Allison (57th Novice, 55th Senior and 22nd O40), 81st Jim Hally (69th Novice, 63rd Senior and 5th O55), 83rd Val Farrell (71st Novice, 69th Senior and 12th O50), 84th Willie Keane (72nd Novice and 27th O40), and 92nd Shane White (79th Novice and 30th O40). The club team was 6th in the Novice and Senior and 4th in the O35 category. Tom and Gerry were on the county team that placed 4th in the O35 category. Tom and Philly were on the county team that placed 4th in the Senior. Tom, Philly and Eamonn were on the county team that placed 4th in the Novice.

MUNSTER JUVENILE U/9 - U/11 INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP


The Munster indoor championships for juvenile’s U//9 to U/11 were held in Nenagh stadium on Sunday 10th March. We had eight athletes in action in the U/9 girls Evie Curling enjoyed her day competing in the 60m, Long Jump and 300m.In the Boys U/9 Robbie Kelly put in some fine performances in what were very big fields of athletes he finished 13th in the 300m and 17th in the long jump. Harry Creedon and Sean Fitzgerald competed in the boys U/10 where Sean was 4th in his heat of the 500m and 2nd in his heat of the 60m where he qualified for the semi final. He also competed in the L/J. Harry also competed in the L/J and was 4th in his heat of the 500m. In the Girls U/11 we had three strong competitors. All three did the L/J and Shona Ryan was our best performer finishing 17th in a field of ninety; she also finished 2nd in her heat of the 600m in 2:18. Lucy Heffernan had our best time of 2:17 in the 600m heat where she was 4th. Ciara Hayes was 4th in her 60m heat. Max Furlong was our representative in the boys U/11 where he competed in the 60m and L/J. Well done to all our athletes, and that completes the indoor season for this year.
