The DkIT Dundalk 10k, held on a sunny Wednesday evening on the 17th of April, once again proved itself as a staple event in the local athletics calendar, drawing both seasoned runners and community participants. The event, famed for its vibrant atmosphere and competitive spirit, saw nearly a thousand athletes take to the streets, with 867 completing the 10k and another 160 tackling the 5k distance.
Danny Nugent of Ace Athletics clinched the top spot in the male category with an impressive time of 32 minutes and 40 seconds. Hot on his heels was David Redmond, who crossed the finish line just four seconds later, clocking in at 32 minutes and 44 seconds. Maurice McMahon rounded out the top three with a strong finish at 33 minutes and 15 seconds. The tight competition among the leading men added an extra thrill to proceedings.
In the women's category, Aine Cotter of North East Runners successfully defended her title, completing the course in an exceptional time of 35 minutes and 51 seconds. Her performance not only showcased her dominant pace but also highlighted her as a consistent frontrunner in the running community. Kelly Breen, also from North East Runners, secured second place with a solid time of 37 minutes and 1 second, followed by Caoimhe Kilroy who finished in 38 minutes and 13 seconds, completing the podium for the women.
The event was more than just a race; it was a celebration of fitness, endurance, and community spirit. The excellent weather added to the festive atmosphere, making it a delightful evening for competitors and spectators alike.
