This weekend sees a jam-packed weekend of races and fun runs spread across the country. Just yesterday, another one of these races sold out and it is a race which holds a special place in many people’s hearts.
The Charlie Curran Memorial Run enters its 10th year this weekend and the organiser, Charlie Curran Jr, has made every effort to make this one extra-special.
The previous nine years have seen a staggering €62,000 raised for great charities around Ireland and Charlie is hoping to build on that this year.
This year’s race is raising funds for two very worthy causes, the Little Blue Heroes Foundation, and the Irish Heart Foundation.
The annual race began in 2014 with Charlie wanting to remember his late father ‘in a way where everyone could come together and enjoy themselves.
‘They came from far and wide in January 2015 from Bagenalstown to Ballinasloe, and from Cork to Donegal to Carlow town and to scenic Oak Park to honour Run/ Walk in my dad’s memory while remembering their loved ones who sadly had also passed.’
As the event enters its tenth year, it is clear to see that Charlie has done what he originally set out to do with this race and more.
The race takes place on Sunday, January 28th, at 11am from the Oak Park Road in Co. Carlow, with race HQ being located in Carlow Town Hurling Club.
Be sure to get to Carlow this Sunday to support this event, even if you are not running, and be a part of this unifying annual race that really brings communities from far and wide together as one.
