The upcoming St. Brigid's Day Bank Holiday Weekend here in Ireland sees one of the great charity runs return to the Irish running calendar. On Monday 5th February, the Cois Nore 5k takes place in Kilkenny for a third year.
This great event raises vital funds for the Cois Nore Cancer Support Centre in Kilkenny. Cois Nore is Kilkenny’s community-based Cancer Support Centre that provides free, confidential support and both professional and voluntary services to people of all ages affected by cancer and their families to enable them to live well with their diagnosis.
Run Republic reached out to the people at Cois Nore to learn more about the run and what it means to the charity.
'Cois Nore depends on fundraising to ensure that their services can continue to be provided free of charge to the people of Kilkenny.
'The 5K is open to everyone, runners, joggers, or walkers. In previous years we have had people of all ages and fitness levels take part. There is also a 1K for primary school aged children so that all the family can take part on the day.
'The 5K has a new route this year which will see the participants running or walking outside the walls of Kilkenny’s Castle Park and down along the beautiful Canal Walk, then back up to the Castle Park via the Bennettbridge Road.
'The event is sponsored by Tirlan with media support from KCLR. The Kilkenny City Harriers also support us throughout the planning of the event and on the day.'
Adults can register for the 5k at a price of €25, while under 16's can register for €15. Entry for the 1K is limited to primary school aged children with a registration fee of €10. You can click the link here to register! But you must be quick, as the first 250 entrants will receive a "Cartoon Saloon" specially designed t-shirt!
If you are in the Kilkenny area on the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend, then there is truly no better place to be than at the Cois Nore 5k to support this wonderful charity while taking part in a scenic race!
