Aoife Martin, a talented 15-year-old athlete from Carraig na bhFear AC, is rapidly making a name for herself in race walking circles. Under the expert guidance of her coach, Martin Hurley, Aoife has achieved remarkable milestones at a young age, showcasing her talent and potential.
Aoife's hard work and consistent performance have earned her a spot to represent Ireland at the SIAB competition in July. Earlier this year, Aoife clinched the title of U17 Indoor All Ireland Champion in the 1500m race walk with an impressive time of 6:59. This victory not only highlights her skillset and quality but also her ability to perform under pressure.
Competing on an international platform, Aoife finished 4th in the 5K race walk in Dudince, Slovakia, in March 2024. This experience has undoubtedly contributed to her growth as an athlete. Additionally, Aoife set a personal best of 25:47 for the 5K race walk at the Kilkenny Grand Prix in May 2024, a testament to her continuous improvement and dedication to the sport.
Aoife is currently gearing up for the SIABs on July 20th, where she will represent Ireland in Wales. This competition is an exciting opportunity for her to showcase her talent on a larger stage and gain more valuable experience.
