Yesterday evening saw the second race in the Mayo AC 5k Series take place in Westport. While the rest of the county endured heavy downpours, Westport remained a sanctuary of calm, dry, and relatively cool weather, creating ideal running conditions for the event.
The course, characterised by its numerous twists and turns and a tricky gravel section, challenged runners but also offered little in the way of inclines, paving the way for some impressive times. The route was well-manned by high-visibility Westport AC members, ensuring that all participants stayed on track and remained safe throughout the race.
Mayo AC made a significant impact on the race, with 47 club members participating out of approximately 182 finishers. This marked one of the largest club presences in recent races, highlighted by the vibrant display of club colours throughout the course. With just two races of the series complete, the club are certainly making their presence felt in the wider running community.
The next event in the series is scheduled for next Tuesday evening, May 28th, when the Mayo AC 5k Series continues in Foxford. Anticipation is building as runners prepare to tackle the new course and strive for personal bests.
