Did You Capture Ireland's European Athletics Success On Camera? RTÉ Wants Your Footage for Christmas Special

Irish athletics supporters who captured memorable moments from this summer's European Athletics Championships in Birmingham could see their footage featured on RTÉ this Christmas, as producers appeal for videos celebrating the biggest sporting moments of 2026.

Production company Allkind Media is preparing a special programme for RTÉ One entitled The Year We Roared, looking back at a memorable year for Irish sport through the eyes of the supporters who experienced it.

The appeal, shared by Athletics Ireland, invites members of the public to submit their own recordings of sporting celebrations, emotional reactions and unforgettable moments from throughout the year.

For athletics supporters, Ireland's remarkable performances at the European Championships in August provide plenty of potential material.

A Memorable Summer for Irish Athletics

Ireland returned from Birmingham with four medals, including two golds, following one of the country's most successful European Athletics Championships.

Mark English made history by claiming gold in the men's 800m, becoming the first Irishman to win an individual European outdoor title.

Kate O'Connor followed with a superb gold medal in the women's heptathlon, setting a new national record of 6,751 points.

Rhasidat Adeleke claimed silver in the women's 200m with an Irish record of 22.28 seconds, while Andrew Coscoran completed the medal haul with bronze in the men's 1500m.

The performances provided plenty of reasons for celebration, both among the Irish supporters present in Birmingham and those following the action back home.

Now, some of those celebrations could find their way onto national television.

RTÉ Looking for Supporters' Reactions

Rather than relying entirely on traditional television footage, the production team wants to capture the experiences of ordinary sports supporters.

That could include reactions from the stands, celebrations in living rooms or pubs, homecomings and spontaneous moments that television cameras might have missed.

The appeal is not restricted to athletics, with footage from other Irish sporting achievements throughout 2026 also welcome.

Professional camera equipment is not required, with the producers particularly interested in authentic reactions recorded on mobile phones.

How to Submit Your Footage

Anyone who recorded a memorable sporting moment during 2026 can contact Allkind Media directly.

To submit footage:

  • Email: sport@allkindmedia.com
  • Deadline: Before 13 November 2026
  • What to include: A short description of the footage, including where and when it was recorded.
  • Social media: Links to existing posts can also be submitted.

The footage must have been recorded by the person submitting it, although anyone who knows somebody with a suitable recording is encouraged to pass on the appeal.

Allkind Media, whose previous productions include Ireland's Fittest Family, The Great House Revival and Help Me Buy a Home, is producing the programme for broadcast on RTÉ One over Christmas.

For those fortunate enough to witness Ireland's European medal successes in person, or who celebrated every moment from home, it could be an opportunity to become part of a televised look back at an unforgettable sporting year.
