Six leading Irish athletes are in action across two European meetings today, with five of the group returning to competition following last month’s European Championships in Birmingham.
Bori Akinola, Ciara Neville and Eric Favors compete at the Serbia Athletics Meeting. Akinola and Neville contest straight 100m races, while Irish record holder Favors lines up in the men’s shot put.
Much of the attention in Trier will be on Sophie O’Sullivan, who returns to the 800m just three days after clocking a personal best of 1:58.60 in Brescia. That performance moved her to second on the Irish all time list and within 0.09 seconds of Ciara Mageean’s national record.
Laura Nicholson joins O’Sullivan in the women’s 800m, while Irish 5000m record holder Brian Fay drops down to the men’s 1500m.
