How to Follow NI Athletes on Day Three of The Commonwealth Games Athletics

Day three of the athletics programme at the Commonwealth Games sees Northern Ireland's medal hopes firmly fixed on the second and final day of the women's heptathlon, with Kate O'Connor in pole position for gold after reclaiming the overnight lead despite battling torrential rain throughout Tuesday evening.

O'Connor takes a 49 point advantage into the final three disciplines after finishing the opening day on 3,731 points, while Anna McCauley remains well in contention in sixth place after another impressive day's work. Both athletes return for the long jump, javelin throw and the decisive 800m as the medals are decided.

Also in action is James Gormley, who begins his Commonwealth Games campaign in the men's mile. The Northern Ireland record holder has been handed a stacked second heat as he looks to secure one of the qualifying places for the final in one of the most anticipated events of the championships.
