How To Watch Cillian Kirwan And Other Irish Athletes In Action In Sweden This Evening

Three of Ireland’s leading athletes compete at the Folksam Grand Prix Göteborg in Sweden this evening, with Cillian Kirwan, Eric Favors and Daena Kealy all on the programme.

Kirwan returns to action for the first time since finishing runner up in the men’s 800m at the National Championships last month. He finished second behind Cian McPhillips, who later reached the European final in Birmingham, while Mark English completed a memorable week for Irish middle distance running by claiming European 800m gold.

The Clonliffe Harriers athlete, who featured in an interview with Run Republic last month, moves beyond his usual two lap event tonight to contest the rarely run 1000m.

It is an intriguing distance for Kirwan, asking for the speed of an 800m runner while stretching the race another 200 metres. He will face a quality international field at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting.

Two of Ireland’s leading field athletes are also in action.

Irish shot put champion Eric Favors returns to the circle less than two weeks after producing one of the finest results of his career at the European Athletics Championships. Favors became the first Irish man to reach a European shot put final, eventually finishing tenth in Birmingham.

Daena Kealy completes the Irish trio. The St Abban’s athlete won her first outdoor national high jump title last month, clearing a lifetime best of 1.87m at Morton Stadium.

Below are the Irish start times, start lists, live stream and results. All times listed are Irish time.
