How to Watch Sarah Healy in the Silesia Diamond & the Antrim Coast Half Today

Sarah Healy takes centre stage in Sunday’s Irish athletics action as she returns to the track for the first time since the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

Healy left Birmingham with two major final finishes, but also no shortage of what ifs. She came within three tenths of a second of bronze when finishing fourth in the 5,000m, with one commentator arguing that she waited too long to attack and was not desperate enough to protect her position. Five days later, she placed fifth in the 1,500m after becoming boxed in as the decisive move unfolded.

Those results left a nagging sense that at least one European medal had been there for the taking. Silesia now provides an immediate opportunity to make a statement against another formidable field.

Olympic silver medallist Jessica Hull is among the leading contenders, along with Diamond League leader Birke Haylom. Klaudia Kazimierska and Patricia Silva, the silver and bronze medallists who finished ahead of Healy in Birmingham, are also on the start list.

There is plenty riding on the result beyond one afternoon in Poland. Healy currently sits 22nd in the Road to the Ultimate rankings for the women’s 1,500m, with only 12 places available for Budapest. The qualification window closes on 1 September, leaving her needing a major performance and a valuable haul of ranking points to force her way into contention.

Closer to home, the Antrim Coast Half Marathon continues its remarkable rise. The event has grown from just 62 participants to almost 6,000, earning World Athletics Elite Label status and establishing itself as one of the most prestigious road races on these shores.

Its appeal now stretches from some of the leading distance runners in the world to thousands of recreational athletes targeting one of the biggest days on the local running calendar. Hiko Tonosa, Anika Thompson, Emily Haggard Kearney and Nichola Sheridan are among the notable Irish names competing, with many more Irish club runners and recreational competitors included across the start lists.
