Eight Irish athletes will compete at two meetings across Europe this evening, with several members of the European Championships team returning to action following Birmingham.
The largest Irish contingent is at the International Wiesław Maniak Memorial in Szczecin, Poland, where Ciara Neville, Jack Raftery and Sarah Lavin are among six Irish athletes on the programme.
Neville returns to the 100m following an encouraging European Championships campaign. The national champion progressed to the semi finals in Birmingham, continuing an impressive return to the international stage after several difficult seasons.
Raftery also reached the European semi finals, finishing seventh in his men’s 400m race in 45.81 seconds. He contests the B final this evening, while Andrew Egan opens the Irish involvement in the C final.
Lavin takes on the women’s 100m hurdles, with a place in the final available if she progresses from her semi final. Irish High Jump Champion Daena Kealy competes in the women’s high jump, while Cillian Kirwan races for the second time in three days. Kirwan drops back to 800m after contesting the rarely run 1000m at the Folksam Grand Prix in Gothenburg on Monday.
The later action comes from Pfungstadt in Germany, where Laura Nicholson and Brian Fay will both race over 1500m. Fay returns after contesting the men’s 5000m final at the European Championships, while Nicholson continues a season which has already brought personal bests over both 800m and 1500m.
The Polish meeting will be broadcast by TVP Sport, but the stream is restricted to viewers in Poland. There is no live stream available for the meeting in Pfungstadt.
