Sophie O'Sullivan Among Irish Interest At Elite Jessheim Meet In Norway This Evening

Middle distance athletes Sophia O'Sullivan, Laura Nicholson and Cillian Gleeson are all on the startlists at the Elite Jessheim meeting in Norway this evening, with all three competing over 1500 metres at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze fixture.

Sophie O'Sullivan continues what has already been another solid season as she builds towards the major championships later this summer. The Irish international secured qualification for the European Athletics Championships thanks to her 4:02.12 performance at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo last year and remains one of Ireland's leading middle distance athletes. Having already raced over both 800 metres and 1500 metres this outdoor season, she will be looking to continue building momentum in Norway as she takes on another competitive international field.

Laura Nicholson arrives in Norway in excellent form and currently holds the Irish season lead over both 1500 metres and 3000 metres. The Bandon AC athlete has already built up a lengthy outdoor campaign due to competing in the Southern Hemisphere during the Irish winter, making this her 11th outdoor outing of the season. She has picked up three victories so far this year, one in Australia and two in Japan, across both the mile and 1500 metres. Nicholson arrives carrying a season's best of 4:07.52 and will be aiming to continue sharpening her form against another quality international field

Meanwhile, Cillian Gleeson continues to enjoy a breakthrough year. The talented youngster recently ran 13:54.27 for 5000 metres, comfortably inside the qualifying standard for the World Under 20 Championships. Having already secured his place for the global championships, attention now turns back to the 1500 metres, where another strong performance could move him closer to major personal best territory as he continues his development in the American collegiate system.

Below are the athletes' start times, how to follow the action and any available streaming links.
