Sophie O'Sullivan produced a brilliant late surge to claim victory in the women's 1500 metres at Friday night's Morton Games, with a finish that brought back memories of the trademark closing speed associated with her mother, Sonia O'Sullivan.
After sitting patiently through much of the race, O'Sullivan made her move with just over 200 metres remaining, edging into contention around the final bend before producing a powerful burst down the home straight. She pulled clear over the closing 100 metres to cross the line first in 4:08.26, rounding off an impressive tactical performance.
The video below captures the final lap, including O'Sullivan's perfectly timed move and decisive finishing kick that secured the win.
