Fast Feet and Harbour Heat: Kinsale Regatta 5 Mile Returns this Augus

One of the jewels of the summer road racing calendar is back and it’s filling up fast.

The Kinsale Regatta 5 Mile, set for Friday 1st August at 7.30pm, is gearing up for what could be its biggest and most exciting edition yet. Kicking off the famous Kinsale Regatta Festival, this event combines serious running pedigree with a setting that makes you wonder if you’re in a postcard.

Starting at Kinsale GAA Club, this is a chipped and certified course (courtesy of Graham Meikle of AIMS/IAAF) that’s as fast as it is scenic. With a net downhill finish into the heart of Main Street, it’s a course made for PB hunters or anyone happy to swap a cityscape for sweeping coastal views.

The race is organised by Kinsale TriClub under an Athletics Ireland permit and is once again supporting a fantastic local cause. All proceeds from the race go to KYC Sailability Class, a volunteer group making watersports accessible for people with disabilities. Race Director Jeremiah Callanan puts it simply:

“Everyone is welcome to experience the thrill of the race, the beauty of the scenery, the camaraderie of fellow runners, and the satisfaction of supporting a good cause.”

Already, entries have landed from across Ireland, the UK and even Luxembourg and with the race capped at 900, organisers are expecting a sell-out well before race day. And that’s no surprise: it’s €25 entry, professionally timed, and followed by an atmosphere only a town like Kinsale can offer. Finish the race, then dive straight into live music, festival vibes, and maybe a well-earned pint.

This isn’t a walk-in-the-park fun run, literally. No walkers, buggies or strollers allowed. It’s strictly for runners aged 18 and over, with prize categories for men, women, age groups, wheelchair users, and visually impaired runners.
