Santa Hats At The Ready As 2026 Ennis 5k Christmas Dash Opens For Entries

There are worse ways to spend the final Sunday before Christmas than running 5K, collecting a medal and enjoying a festive morning with family and friends.

The Run Santa Run 5K Christmas Dash comes to Lees Road in Ennis on Sunday December 20th, starting at 10.00am. Organised by Just Race Events, it is designed to give runners of all ages and abilities an enjoyable end of year outing, with space for quick times, relaxed miles and plenty of Christmas gear.

The timing should add to the atmosphere. The event lands just five days before Christmas, when training plans are competing with busy calendars, late shopping and the growing temptation to call every snack essential fuelling. A local 5K offers a simple reason to get outside, meet other runners and start the day with something active.

A Race Morning For The Whole Family

The strongest selling point is how easy the event makes it for families to take part together.

Adult entry costs €15, entry for anyone under 16 is €10 and a family place for two adults and two children costs €40. That family option saves €10 compared with buying the four entries separately, keeping the morning reasonably priced at an expensive time of year.

It also changes the feel of the event. One runner can target a strong December 5K, another can enjoy a comfortable run and younger family members can become part of the occasion rather than watching from the side. Nobody needs to arrive with a personal best in mind. Turning up in festive gear and enjoying the morning is every bit as valid.

A Santa hat may not improve anyone’s aerodynamics, but it will certainly suit the occasion.

Fast Effort Or Festive Outing

Five kilometres is short enough to feel approachable and long enough to provide a proper challenge. That gives the Christmas Dash appeal beyond the novelty of its theme.

Regular runners can use it as one final hard effort before the holiday break. Newer runners can make it a friendly target at the end of the year, while parents and children can cover the distance together. Groups from local clubs, workplaces and families could also use it as a seasonal get together with a run built in.

The exact course has not yet been published, so runners should wait for further event information before making predictions about times or terrain. The venue itself is well suited to a community running event. John O’Sullivan Park at Lees Road sits close to Ennis town centre and covers 134 acres of woodland and parkland, with athletics and outdoor activity already central to the facility.

That setting gives the organisers a strong base for a relaxed event morning and makes the race convenient for local runners who know Lees Road well.

A Medal, A Race Number And Refreshments

Every entry includes a custom finisher’s medal, refreshments at the finish and a personalised race number.

Those details help the Christmas Dash feel like an occasion without pushing the entry price too high. The personalised number gives each participant a small keepsake before the start, the medal marks the achievement at the finish and the refreshments create a reason to stay around and enjoy the atmosphere afterwards.

For younger runners in particular, receiving a medal can turn a December morning run into a lasting memory. For the adults, it might also provide useful evidence that at least one healthy decision was made during Christmas week.

One More Start Line Before Christmas

December racing can be refreshingly uncomplicated. There is no long training block required for a 5K and no need to spend half the day travelling or recovering. Runners can turn up, give the distance the effort they want and still have most of Sunday ahead of them.

That makes this event a good fit for anyone whose normal routine becomes less predictable in the run up to Christmas. It can be a target, a social run or simply a commitment that gets the family out of the house together.

The festive theme should also remove some of the pressure that can surround a normal race morning. A quick run is welcome, but so are Christmas jumpers, seasonal colours and runners who care more about the photographs than the finishing clock.

Entries Are Open Through RaceReg

All three entry categories are open at the time of writing, with adult, under 16 and family places available. Adult entries have already begun to move, so anyone planning to make the dash part of their Christmas calendar would be wise to secure a place early.

Registration is available through RaceReg, Run Republic’s event entry platform. The booking page lets participants choose the appropriate entry category and reserve their place directly.

No closing date has been listed, so relying on a late December entry could be risky if demand grows. With a low entry price, a family option and a date that is easy to remember, this is one event worth putting in the calendar now.
