Break 4 the Border Half Marathon

Break 4 the Border on 12 September 2026 is a cross-border Half Marathon race offering runners the rare chance to travel from Northern Ireland into the Republic of Ireland entirely on foot.

The course is set against the breathtaking backdrop of the recently completed Greenway between Newry in County Down and Carlingford in County Louth.

The Half Marathon kicks off in the heart of Newry, and after a brief road section, runners join the picturesque Greenway at Albert Basin. From there, the route winds along a peaceful path of tarmac and soft shingle, 90% traffic-free, hugging the shimmering coastline of Carlingford Lough. Runners pass through the village of Omeath before finishing at Carlingford Marina.
