An extreme 50.5 km ultra in Wicklow, part of the Irish Ultra Championships.

Climb: 2,140 m

Difficulty: 10 (Extreme: >1,000 m ascent or >30 km)

Race Marking: Only major junctions marked – navigation skills required

GPS: Allowed

🎒 Mandatory Kit – Level C (Advanced):

Waterproof jacket with hood & taped seams

Hat or buff, gloves, whistle

Charged mobile phone (emergency number stored)

Foil blanket / bivvy bag, waterproof full leg cover

Means to carry ≥500 mL water, emergency food

📍 Route & Highlights:

Start/Finish: Pier Gates Car Park (Lough Dan / Lough Tay)

Follows Wicklow Way, diversion loops to Ballinastoe, Crone Woods, Curtlestown, Glencullen Bridge, then back

Aid stations:

17 km – Crone Woods (Water & Aid)

27 km – Glencullen Bridge (Drop bag & Aid)

Self-sufficient event – no crews or spectators along the route

⚠️ Important Notes:

Strict cut-offs at aid points – must be adhered to

Poles are not permitted

Carpooling encouraged; parking managed by marshals with card/tap payment only

This ultra serves as the trial race for the 52 km European Off-Road Running Championships in Slovenia (June 2026)

Finishers receive a Maurice Mullins Ultra Mug
