The Cape Clear Island Races Half Marathon
Cape Clear Island - Inis Cleire, is Ireland's southernmost inhabited island. It is a Gaeltacht area, in which Irish is spoken on a daily basis. With a population of around 130, it is a quiet, unspoilt island with a rich heritage of fishing and farming, today combined with island arts and crafts, lavender production, goat farming and even a Cape Clear distillery, famed for it's lavender gin!
The island is criss-crossed with a myriad of hiking trails, affording spectacular views of the islands of Roaringwater Bay, Fastnet Rock Lighthouse (only 6km west of the island), and stunning vistas eastwards, looking back to Sherkin Island and the mainland.
We have taken these island trails, and a selection of rarely-used, Fuschia-infused island lanes to create a unique trail running experience in West Cork - The CAPE CLEAR ISLAND RACES - with both Half Marathon, and 10km distances to choose from. The ferryboat from Baltimore harbour to, and from Cape Clear Island is included in the adventure!
Provisional Start-times: HALF MARATHON - 11:30am 10Km - 12:15pm
Half marathon runners will be on the first ferry at 9am and the 10km runners on the 10am ferry.
