The Belfast Irish Milers Meet was awarded a Challenger status, and out of the 114 challenger events that took place in 2025, the Belfast meet was ranked 33rd. This improved the track meets 2024 ranking.
There were 114 challenger tour events in 2025, with eight challenger tour events being hosted in the UK. For a second consecutive year, the Belfast Irish Milers Meet was ranked first.
There were 10 area records set throughout the entire World Athletics Continental Tour. And again, for the second consecutive year, the Belfast Irish Milers meet contributed to one of these records, as British athlete Justin Davies broke the Welsh 800m record when he stormed to victory in the Men’s International 800m in a record breaking 1:44.35. In 2024 Phoebe Gill was an area record breaker in the 800m.
“I’m delighted to see the track meet obtain such fantastic rankings amongst the World Athletics Continental Tour events” commented Race Director Eamonn Christie.
Christie continued “I have to extend thanks to everyone for their continued support over the past ten years. Without the support of headline sponsor Tripadvisor, our individual race sponsors, officials, volunteers and of course the athletes, the track meet just wouldn’t have achieved such impressive world athletics rankings”
After ten successful years, the Belfast Irish Milers Meet rebranded to The Belfast Classic and will take place on Saturday 9th May 2026 at the Mary Peters Track Belfast.
More information can be found on the official social media platforms for The Belfast Classic.
