Darragh McElhinney Heads Irish Trio In Marseille This Evening

While much of the athletics world's attention will be focused on tonight's Diamond League action, a number of Irish athletes will also be competing elsewhere across Europe in France and Finland.

They will be in action at two European meetings this evening, with distance runners competing in France while hammer thrower Nicola Tuthill heads to Finland looking to continue her strong 2026 campaign.

Darragh McElhinney lines up in the men's 1500m. The Cork athlete has established himself as one of Ireland's leading distance runners in recent years and will be looking to produce another strong performance against international opposition. McElhinney enjoyed victory in the international 1500m at last year's Belfast Classic and continues to build momentum during the outdoor season.

Joining him in Marseille will be Alex O'Neill of Limerick Track Club, who is entered in the women's 800m, while Jack O'Leary takes on the men's 3000m. O'Leary has enjoyed a productive spell of racing across a range of distances this season and will be aiming to continue that form on the French circuit.

Meanwhile in Finland, attention will centre on Nicola Tuthill at the Motonet GP Lahti. The Irish Olympian continues to establish herself among Europe's leading young hammer throwers following her silver medal at last year's European Under 23 Championships. Tuthill has already produced several strong performances this season and will be hoping for another big throw in Lahti.

Also in action in Finland is Niamh Carr, who is entered in the women's 1500m.

Will The Meetings Be Streamed?

Unfortunately, it does not appear that this year's Meeting de Marseille will be live streamed. European Athletics is instead providing coverage of the Continental Tour Challenger meeting in Lisbon, leaving the French meeting without an official international broadcast.

The Motonet GP Lahti is currently listed as having EU wide streaming availability. However, a similar listing appeared last year before coverage ultimately proved to be restricted to local broadcasters.

As a result, we have included the available streaming link below for Irish viewers, but at the time of writing we cannot guarantee that the broadcast will be accessible in Ireland.
