How To Watch Irish Athletes In Spain & Finland This Evening

Six Irish athletes will be in action across two European meetings on Tuesday evening, with four competing at the prestigious Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland and two more taking to the track and field at the Mitin Internacional Andalucía in Spain.
The first Irish athlete in action at the Paavo Nurmi Games is Cathal Doyle of Clonliffe Harriers, who lines up for his second outdoor 1500m race of the season. Doyle opened his campaign in Poland last week, clocking 3:39.72, and will be looking to improve on that performance against another strong international field.
Attention then turns to the men's 5000m, where three of Ireland's leading distance runners will go head to head.
Nick Griggs steps up in distance after opening his outdoor season with races over the mile and 1500m. The Tyrone athlete ran 3:38.92 over 1500m in Poland last week and is equally comfortable over longer distances, having already built an impressive record over 3000m and 5000m. It will be interesting to see how he fares back over the longer trip.
Brian Fay arrives in Finland in strong form. The Raheny Shamrock athlete claimed victory over 5000m in Japan around a month ago, running an impressive 13:13.30. With the distance firmly established as one of his strongest events, Fay will be hoping for another competitive performance.
Completing the Irish trio is Darragh McElhinney, who returns to the track after a superb victory at the Trond Mohn Games. The Cork athlete produced a powerful finish to win the 1500m in 3:38.10 and now moves up to 5000m, a distance in which he competed at last year's World Athletics Championships.
Elsewhere, Finn Valley AC duo Arlene Crossan and Sommer Lecky will be in action at the Mitin Internacional Andalucía.
Crossan's outdoor season has already been packed with positives. The Donegal athlete was part of the Irish relay squad that secured qualification for the World Athletics Championships at the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone last month. She followed that up by setting a new personal best and Finn Valley club record 400m hurdle at IFAM Brussels around a week and a half ago. She will be aiming to continue that momentum in the women's 400m.
Lecky is set to compete in the high jump as she continues her outdoor campaign. The Finn Valley athlete has already cleared 1.75m twice this year, first indoors at the Irish Indoor Championships in February and again outdoors in France last month. Having matched that mark in both seasons, she will be hoping to raise the bar even higher as the summer progresses.
