Irish In Action Across The States: NCAA Outdoor Season Swings Into Life

The U.S. collegiate outdoor season really comes to life this weekend, with a packed schedule of meets across the country and a large Irish contingent in action across multiple states.

Competition is already underway, with the Raleigh Relays getting things started yesterday, setting the tone for what is a busy few days ahead.

Raleigh, North Carolina | Thursday March 26th – Saturday March 28th

The action began on Thursday with a number of Irish distance runners already on the track.

Liam Lyons (Holy Cross) produced a standout run in the 1500m, finishing 3rd in 3:38.38, a new personal best.
Cormac Dixon (Providence College) competed in the same event, placing 203rd in 3:56.37.
Seán Cronin (La Salle) finished 31st in 3:43.72, while Nathan Cremin (Montreat College) placed 76th in 3:48.00.

Over longer distances, Noah Harris (University of Tennessee) finished 42nd in the 5000m in 14:07.19, while Scott Fagan (Iona University) placed 94th in the 10000m in 32:11.39.

Attention now turns to the remaining schedule across Friday and Saturday.

This evening sees Gemma Galvin (Providence College) and Cara Laverty (Providence College) in the 1500m, alongside Anna Gardiner (Providence College) and Jane Buckley (Providence College) in the 5000m. Grace Weigele (Stony Brook) also lines up in the 5000m, while Grace Richardson (Kilkenny City Harriers) and Heather Murphy (Montreat College) compete in the 10000m.

Tomorrow, Conall Rogers (Northeastern University) is in action in the 800m, while Killian Fahy (University of North Carolina) competes in the 4x400m relay.

Tallahassee, Florida | Friday March 27th

Two Florida athletes are in action at the Terry Long Florida State Relays.

Nicole Dinan lines up in the Women’s 800m and will also feature in the Women’s 4x400m relay. Lucy-May Sleeman competes in the Women’s 200m and joins Dinan in the Women’s 4x400m relay.

Ashleigh McArdle (DePaul University) has a busy schedule, competing in the High Jump, 200m, 100m hurdles and Javelin throw.

Sarah Hosey (University of Tulsa) and Eimear McCarroll (Bradley University) both compete in the 1500m this evening.

Kate Doherty (Dundrum South Dublin AC) is in action in the 400m hurdles on today and returns tomorrow for the 400m.

Susie Nestor (Rice University) is in action in the 800m today.

With Irish athletes spread right across the United States this weekend, the outdoor season is up and running in earnest, with a steady stream of performances expected as athletes begin building towards championship season later in the year.
