The Irish Senior Track and Field Championships Take Place Next Weekend: Here’s What You Need to Know

Ireland's biggest domestic athletics event returns to Morton Stadium next weekend as the country's best athletes battle for national titles at the Irish Senior Track and Field Championships.

Taking place across Saturday, 25th July and Sunday, 26th July, the championships will bring together Olympians, national record holders and rising stars for two days of competition, with many athletes also chasing qualification for next month's European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. 

Here's everything you need to know.

Who Will be Competing?

As always, the Irish Senior Track and Field Championships will bring together many of the country's biggest names, with Olympians, international medallists and emerging talent all expected to compete across the weekend.

Among those entered are Rhasidat Adeleke, Sharlene Mawdsley, Sarah Healy, Mark English, Nick Griggs, Sarah Lavin, Cian McPhillips, Ciara Neville, Lauren Roy, Bori Akinola, Sean Aigboboh, Maddie Mooney, Sophie O'Sullivan, Nicola Tuthill, Conor Cusack, Elizabeth Ndudi, Lauren Callaghan, Orla Comerford and Michael Murphy, alongside hundreds of athletes from clubs across the country.

With the qualifying window for next month's European Athletics Championships in Birmingham rapidly coming to a close, the championships carry added importance for a number of athletes still chasing selection or looking to improve their world ranking. Throughout the week leading up to the championships, we'll examine the key battles to watch and highlight the athletes who need big performances in Santry to boost their chances of securing a place on the Irish team.

What Can We Look Forward to on Each Day?

Saturday, 25th July

Track

• Heats of the men's and women's 200m, 400m, 400m hurdles, 800m and 1500m.
• National titles decided in the men's 10,000m walk, women's 5,000m walk, men's and women's 200m, and the men's and women's 3,000m steeplechase.
• Women's and men's 4x100m relay finals.

Field

• Women's/Men's Shot Put finals.
• Women's/Men's Triple Jump finals.
• Women's/Men's high jump finals.
• Women's/Men's  javelin finals.
• Women's/Men's Weight for Height finals.

Sunday, 26th July

Track

• Heats and finals of the men's and women's sprint hurdles.
• National titles decided in the men's and women's 100m, 400m, 400m hurdles, 800m, 1500m and 5,000m.
• Women's/Men's 3,000m U20 finals.
• Mixed, women's and men's 4x400m relay finals.

Field

• Women’s/Men’s Hammer finals.
• Women’s/Men’s Pole Vault finals.
• Women’s/Men’s Long Jump finals.
• Women’s/Men’s Discus finals.
• Women’s/Men’s Weight for Distance finals.

A Special Celebration for Ciara Mageean on Sunday

There will be a special celebration in honour of Ciara Mageean on Sunday the second day. The European 1500m champion, who revealed in May 2025 that she had been diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer, will be the guest of honour as the Irish athletics community recognises her outstanding contribution to the sport. A special on track tribute will take place between the men's and women's 1500m finals, with juvenile athletes from affiliated clubs across the country joining Mageean in their club colours. The event is intended to celebrate one of Ireland's greatest ever athletes, whose achievements and influence have inspired a generation of young runners.

Venue & Ticket Information 

Morton Stadium has hosted Ireland's National Championships for decades and is the country's premier outdoor athletics venue. This is a ticket only event, with spectators encouraged to buy online before the weekend.

• Single Day Ticket: €15
• Two Day Ticket: €25
• Under 16s: Free

TV & Streaming Information

Fans unable to attend Morton Stadium will still be able to follow all of the action across the weekend.

Athletics Ireland will provide a live stream of the entire championships on its YouTube channel, allowing viewers to watch every track and field event from Saturday and Sunday.

On Sunday, RTÉ 2 will also broadcast live coverage of the championships, featuring the marquee finals including the men's and women's 100m, 400m, 800m and 1500m, bringing the biggest races of the weekend to a nationwide television audience.

With national titles on the line, European Championship qualification still up for grabs for a number of athletes, and a special tribute planned for Ciara Mageean, Morton Stadium is set for another memorable weekend of athletics.
