Watch: Irish Athletes Busy Across Europe During Packed Midweek Schedule

Irish athletes were in action across Europe over the past 48 hours, producing podium finishes, personal bests and several encouraging performances across a packed schedule of Diamond League, Continental Tour and Challenger meetings.
From Oslo to Lahti, Marseille to London and Prague, Irish athletes continued to build momentum as the outdoor season gathers pace, with several athletes strengthening their positions ahead of a busy summer of international competition.
Strong Irish Presence At Bislett Games
Irish athletes featured prominently at Tuesday night's Bislett Games in Oslo, with Andrew Coscoran competing in the prestigious Dream Mile while Eimear Maher and Orla Comerford both produced strong performances in the meeting's supporting programme.
Coscoran Produces Fastest Outdoor Mile Of His Career
A glance at the final standings from the Dream Mile might suggest an ordinary evening for Andrew Coscoran. The Star of the Sea AC athlete finished eighth in a world class field, but the performance itself was anything but ordinary. Coscoran clocked 3:49.69, the second fastest mile of his career and just fractions outside his personal best. In one of the most prestigious mile races on the calendar, the Irish record holder once again demonstrated that he belongs among the world's elite middle distance runners.
With the season still building towards its peak, the performance suggested there could be even quicker times to come in the weeks ahead.
Maher Continues Strong Season In Oslo
Earlier in the evening, Eimear Maher delivered another encouraging performance, finishing second in the National 1500m. Maher crossed the line in a season's best 4:09.93, continuing what has been a promising outdoor campaign. The race formed part of the Bislett Games supporting programme and provided another opportunity for the Irish athlete to test herself against quality international opposition.
Comerford Claims Para 100m Victory
There was Irish success in Oslo as Orla Comerford claimed victory in the Para 100m. Comerford stopped the clock at 11.78 to take top spot in the mixed classification race. Fellow Irish athlete Lana Sutton also impressed, finishing fourth in 12.88. The result continues a strong run of form for Comerford as she builds towards another major championship campaign later this season.
Irish Athletes Impress At Motonet GP Lahti
There was further Irish success in Finland, where Nicola Tuthill and Niamh Carr both recorded podium finishes at the Motonet GP in Lahti.
Tuthill Returns To The Podium
Nicola Tuthill continued her excellent season with a third place finish in the women's hammer. The Irish record holder recorded a best mark of 71.37 metres to finish on the podium in a strong international field.
Carr Secures Runner Up Finish
Niamh Carr added another solid result to her season by finishing second in the women's 1500m. Carr clocked 4:20.69 to secure the runner up position and continue her progression during the outdoor campaign.
O'Leary & McElhinney In Action In The South Of France
Wednesday's Meeting de Marseille saw another pair of Irish middle distance athletes in action as Jack O'Leary and Darragh McElhinney continued their summer campaigns against strong international opposition. Jack O'Leary produced one of the standout Irish results of the meeting, finishing fourth in the men's 3000m. The Irish athlete stopped the clock at 7:52.39 in a competitive international field. Darragh McElhinney was also in action, placing fifth in the men's 1500m.
Sprinting PBs At Stratford Speed GP
Irish sprinters also enjoyed a productive outing in London, where Ciara Neville, Precious Akpe-Moses and Bori Akinola were all in action at the Stratford Speed GP.
Neville And Akpe-Moses Break Personal Bests
There was reason to celebrate for both Ciara Neville and Precious Akpe-Moses after the pair recorded personal best performances. Neville clocked 11.31 seconds while Akpe-Moses ran 11.58, with both athletes lowering their previous best marks in the same race. The performances continue an encouraging trend for Irish women's sprinting, with several athletes producing lifetime bests during the opening months of the outdoor season.
Akinola Continues European Auto Standard Chase
Also in Stratford, Bori Akinola ran 10.32 seconds to finish fourth in his heat. While still chasing the automatic qualification mark for this summer's European Championships, the UCD AC sprinter and national lead holder remains firmly in contention as the season progresses.
Gormley Continues Commonwealth Games Preparation
James Gormley continued his preparations for next year's Commonwealth Games with a strong third place finish in Prague.
The Irish athlete clocked 3:45.54 for the mile, finishing behind only Ioann Lobles of the Netherlands and Slovenia's Rok Markelj.
