Jennifer Connelly has added a New York Marathon finish of 3:40:09 to a CV that already includes an Oscar. Some people really do make it difficult to feel productive.
The A Beautiful Mind and Top Gun: Maverick actress completed Sunday’s race through the five boroughs while supporting Fred’s Team, which raises money for cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. New York Road Runners confirmed her finishing time in its official race report.
That works out at approximately 5:13 per kilometre, or 8:24 per mile, sustained across the full 42.2km. A celebrity name might attract attention at the start, but it does very little for your legs after three hours.
A Medal for a Different Kind of Performance
Connelly was among nearly 60,000 participants at this year’s event, held on November 1st as New York celebrated 50 years since the marathon expanded beyond Central Park to its five borough course.
Her charity connection gave the effort a purpose beyond the finishing time. Fred’s Team is Memorial Sloan Kettering’s official running programme, supporting research and clinical trials at the cancer centre.
The team takes its name from New York City Marathon cofounder Fred Lebow, who was himself treated at Memorial Sloan Kettering. Its runners continue that connection between the race and cancer research.
Familiar Faces, Serious Running
Connelly was far from the only recognisable name collecting a medal.
Filmmaker and YouTuber Casey Neistat finished in 2:57:25, while television personality Dylan Efron clocked 3:28:11. Queer Eye star Antoni Porowski completed the course in 4:22:15, supporting food rescue charity City Harvest.
Elsewhere, actor Jordan Litz ran 3:13:48, while former Bachelor star Matt James finished in 3:45:37 and Broadway performer Patina Miller recorded 3:57:46.
For Connelly, the number that matters from Sunday is 3:40:09. Whatever the next film role involves, she has made a convincing case for doing her own running scenes.
