Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation Chairman Takes on Dublin Marathon for Sunflower Children’s Hospice

Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation Chairman Paul Foxe and his wife Aidín are taking on the Dublin Marathon this October to raise vital funds and awareness for the Sunflower Children’s Hospice.

The Sunflower Children’s Hospice, being developed by Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation in Castlebar, will provide specialist care and support to children with life-limiting illnesses, as well as their parents, siblings and wider families.

The project will be the first children’s hospice to be built outside Dublin and the first of its kind to be constructed in Ireland since 2011. The Government and HSE has committed to supporting clinical governance and construction will commence in early 2027 at a cost of €20 million. €9 million has been raised to date.

Paul, who has been involved with Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation since 2012 and has served as Chairman since 2025, will compete the 42KM challenge with his wife Aidín. As parents of five young children, the project is particularly close to their hearts.

Paul said:

“Taking on the Dublin Marathon is certainly a challenge, but it is one that we are delighted to take on together for such an important cause.

Having been involved with Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation for many years, I have seen the vision for the Sunflower Children’s Hospice develop and the difference it will make for families who need specialist care and support closer to home.

As parents of five children, Aidín and I know how important it is for families to have the right care and support close to home when they need it most. We hope that by taking on the marathon we can raise some much-needed funds, but also help raise awareness of the Sunflower Children’s Hospice and the difference it will make.”
