Carraig na bhFear AC: Track Successes and Parkrun Victories

August 07, 2024

The final weekend of the National Track and Field programme took place in Tullamore over the weekend with the National U20, U23 and Masters Championships. Following a long season of competition, Ruaidhri Boyle was the sole entrant from Carraig Na BhFear AC. Ruaidhri competed in the first and fastest of the Junior (U20) 400m hurdles heats finishing in a time of 58.55s, the standard in this discipline is sky-high at the moment so no medal to add to last week’s bronze but a very creditable performance for Ruaidhri who will be competing as a Junior again next season. Ruaidhri also competed in the Junior 200m finishing in 3 rd place in heat 2 of 3 in a fast time of 23:24s, a good day’s work from Ruaidhri!

Other News: Another new race was added to the BHAA calendar with Thermosfisher hosting a 4-mile race on the Ringaskiddy to Haulbowline loop, a nice crowd of 319 runners on a warm, humid summers evening. More pb’s this week with Brian Hawkins (23:12) finishing in 16 th place overall, Peter Hawkins (23:24) in 21 st and Rian O’Luasa (23:47) in 27 th place. Richard Hawkins was 4 th in age group in a time of 25:45.

Park Run: The same lads were back in action again in Saturdays’ parkruns with Rian opting for the Ballincollig parkrun for a change of scene! Rian had a sprint finish to cross the line as 2 nd finisher in 18:50, just one second behind the first finisher, well done to Rian! In Tramore Valley, Timmy Hawkins was 1 st across the line in 17:10, Brian 4 th in 18:01, Peter 6 th in 18:38 and Richard 13 th in 20:07! Well done to all!

Look Ahead: A break from competition next weekend before the County Juvenile U15-19 and County ‘B’ Championships take place over the weekend of 17th and 18th August in MTU, the competitions were not possible to host in May as normal due to the unavailability of a track in Cork.
