Dundrum AC Athletes Shine Across Events

May 20, 2024

Davy's Fittest Superstars was held on Saturday May 11th in Meath Eco Park, Co Meath.
Eco Park has stunning natural obstacles, and a number of challenging obstacles were also built, inspired by Ireland’s Fittest Family. Club member Darren Gayson took part with Stephen Flanagan, Ewan Bourke and Mike Nally making up their team. The team missed out on 1st play by 14 seconds. It was a beautiful sunny day to take on the challenging obstacles. The team had a great mix of speed and strength that allowed to fly the course. They had two small mishaps on the final parts with a tractor tire roll, taking a wrong turn due to lack of signage and they lost a few seconds on the 10ft wall.

It's fantastic to see club members take on different fitness challenges especially when their running helps contribute towards it. Darren has done plenty of different fitness challenges over the years including Redbull Conquer the Castle and Ultimate Hell Week which aired on RTE.

The Poulmucka 8k and 5k was held on Friday, May 17th on a lovely sunny evening. It was hosted by Cahir Meet and Train. It's a hilly course with plenty of up and down. In the 8k race we had 7 athletes competing. First home for the club was 7th Gerry O'Neill 29:28. He was followed by 23rd Val Farrell 32:47, 41st Paul Bradshaw 34:33 and on his heels 42nd Emily Leahy 34:34, 45th Shane White 35:03, 58th Denise Compton 36:36 and 77th Declan Hogan 38:22. The 5k race was a family affair with the Gayson family taking part. Juvenile Ella Gayson was 23rd in 26:30, her younger brother 101st Oisin 37:19 and father 102nd Darren 37:18 ran together.

The very popular Fota Cheetah Run 5k was held on Thursday, May 16th in Fota Wildlife Park in Cork and hosted by Eagle AC. The course is held within the wildlife park. We had 2 athletes compete. First home was 69th Tish Ryan 20:41 and was 1st O40. Next was 202nd PJ Holmes in 24:55.

The Fastlane 10k was held in Clondalkin, Dublin on Sunday, May 19th. The course runs along the Grand Canal with very little elevation. There was a field of nearly 600 in the 10k. John Barry travelled to the capital for the race and ran it in 52:47.
