H91 Business 5k Brings Energy to Galway’s Running Scene

August 01, 2024

On Saturday, July 27th, the H91 Business 5k made its return for its fourth edition, delighting participants and spectators alike with its signature blend of fun and competition. Known for its playful naming tradition, this year’s event was officially called The H91 Business 5k, but it was also affectionately known as The Trappers 5k, The Back in Business 5k (2021), The Still in Business 5k (2022), and The Business 5k (2023). As always, the race’s name change was a nod to the event’s lighthearted and jovial spirit.

Race headquarters were situated at the Trappers Inn, with both the start and finish lines conveniently nearby. The course, renowned for its deceptively quick nature, features a fun first 2km downhill, leading to a demanding climb on the final stretch. In previous years, the race has seen impressive winning times of just under 15 minutes, and this year, participants were driven by the added challenge of breaking 15 minutes for the men and 16.30 for the women.

The 2024 edition of the race was no exception in terms of high-performance results. The female category saw Triona Moran leading with a time of 21:17.8, followed by Martina McDonagh and Julia Kostrubiec in second and third places, respectively. On the men’s side, Abass Edres claimed victory in a time of 16.18.9, with Rocher Adeyeye and Jason Broderick finishing in second and third place to round out the podium places.

As has become a beloved tradition, runners were treated to a complimentary Trappers Inn Cajun Chicken Breast Burger and a cold beverage of their choice after crossing the finish line. This year’s event also continued its tradition of giving back, with proceeds benefiting GOAL charities and the Merlin College Athletics Team.

Sean McDermott extended special thanks go to the event’s generous sponsors, Galway Crystal and Terryland Fruit & Veg, as well as to the Trappers Inn for their warm hospitality.

Tribal Running, led by Sean McDermott, once again demonstrated their commitment to organising high-quality events in Galway and beyond, making it a must-try experience for anyone interested in competitive running.

With its blend of competitive spirit, community support, and festive atmosphere, the H91 Business 5k continues to be a standout event on the Galway running calendar, and all eyes are now looking forward to next year!
