The Lisvernane/Aherlow IMRA Munster race, held on Sunday, July 28th, was the ninth thrilling installment of the IMRA Munster Summer/Autumn Trail League. Amidst a sweltering sun, competitors faced a challenging course that once again showcased the rugged beauty of the region.
The race began and concluded in Lisvernane, with the stunning Galty Mountains providing a beautiful backdrop. Participants navigated through a demanding landscape that included steep hills, muddy paths, and enchanting woodland trails, making for a true test of their skill.
In the fiercely contested female category, Kealey Tideswell emerged victorious, followed by Carol Finn in second place and Suzanne Shine securing third. On the men’s side, Nick Hogan claimed first place, with Patrick Brown and Gerard Maloney rounding out the top three.
The success of the event was due in no small part to the dedication of Race Director Marie O'Shea and her team of volunteers, whose efforts ensured a smooth and enjoyable experience for all involved.
Looking ahead, the IMRA Munster calendar continues with the Keeper Hill - Killoscully Half Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, August 3rd. This upcoming race will serve as the midpoint of the Munster Half-Marathon League, promising another exciting challenge for trail and mountain running aficionados.
With the heat of the Lisvernane/Aherlow race behind us, anticipation builds for the next leg of the trail running season.
