With 2023 coming to a close, Run Republic begin to look ahead to 2024 and cast our eye towards the next generation of athletes coming through around the country. The first athlete we will look at in this series is Clodagh Donohoe.

Clodagh Donohoe, 16, is from Newport, Co. Tipperary and is a promising athlete in the high jump and triple jump. Training out of Nenagh Olympic AC under her coach Martin O’Grady, Donohoe has achieved a High Jump PB of 1.63 and a Triple Jump PB of 10.80.

Under the Athletics Ireland banner, Donohoe is a two-time National Indoor Champion, three-time National Silver Medallist, and two-time National Bronze Medallist. She is also a two-time National Community Games Champion in High Jump.

Overseas, Donohoe has achieved success also representing Ireland at the Schools International in Grangemouth, Scotland, finishing 5th. She is also a three-time silver medallist at the Scottish National Indoor Championships.

2023 was her best year to date, Clodagh had 19 podium finishes out of 21 competitions in Munster & National events with schools, Athletics Ireland & Community Games.

Such a decorated athlete already at just 16 years of age, 2024 is due to be another great year for the budding star. Run Republic are told that Clodagh Donohoe’s ambitions for 2024 are ‘to get over 11m in triple jump, to improve her PB in high jump, to make the schools international team again, and of course to stay injury free!’

Having already competed for the Tipperary senior women’s team at the National League Final, winning silver at the event, Clodagh Donohoe is without a doubt a name you will be hearing about in the coming years.
