Dubrovnik Half Marathon 2027: City Walls, Adriatic Views And A Spring Running Escape

Dubrovnik Half Marathon 2027: City Walls, Adriatic Views And A Spring Running Escape

A spring race abroad gives the winter training an appealing destination. In Dubrovnik, that means stone streets, red rooftops and the Adriatic waiting beyond the city walls. On Sunday April 25th, the Dubrovnik Half Marathon brings runners to Croatia’s southern coast, with the finish on Stradun, the old town’s main thoroughfare. There are worse places to be standing around with a medal and sore legs.

Part of the Du Motion weekend, this is a trip with plenty to fill the days around the race. Just leave some room in the itinerary for sitting down.

The Three Races

A fantastic atmosphere and runners from around the world filled the streets of Dubrovnik

The half marathon starts on Stradun at 9:30am, with a three hour time limit. The published course heads out through the city towards Gruž and along the waterfront to Komolac before returning. You get coastal scenery and a memorable finish, but this is a demanding course rather than an obvious choice for your fastest half.

The charity 5K starts at 9:35am on Sunday and also returns to Stradun. It offers travelling companions a shorter race of their own, with a route through the city rather than a morning spent waiting beside the finish barrier.

Saturday’s Run The Wall starts at 10:00am and covers 2.5km, including the fortifications. The organiser lists 1,080 steps, so the short distance should fool nobody. It is already marked sold out, although watching could still be part of your weekend.

The Orlando Kids’ Race follows at 11:00am on Saturday. With the main events centred on Stradun, the weekend has a convenient meeting point for runners and supporters. For anyone racing on Sunday, an enthusiastic Saturday tour of every staircase in Dubrovnik might be best reconsidered.

What Is April Weather Actually Like?

What's spring like in Croatia and what to do (April & May)? | Camping Village Šimuni

Croatia’s meteorological service records a long term April mean temperature of 14.5°C in Dubrovnik. That is an average across day and night, not an afternoon high. Its published figures show around 87.5mm of rainfall during the month and approximately 11 days with rain.

April offers the prospect of comfortable running conditions, but the Adriatic backdrop does not guarantee sunshine. Pack a light waterproof and something warm for before the start, as well as sun protection. With the half beginning at 9:30am, check the forecast before settling on your race outfit or target pace. A holiday photograph is a poor weather forecast.

Where To Stay And How To Reach The Start

Lapad, everybody's favorite neighborhood | Hotel More

Staying in or near the old town keeps you close to the start and finish. Check the walking route before booking, though: an apartment that looks nearby on a map may involve plenty of steps. Lapad and Gruž are alternatives if you prefer to travel into the centre on race morning.

The organiser recommends buses to Pile, followed by a walk through Pile Gate to Stradun. Give yourself time for that final approach and check the race weekend transport instructions. Driving to the start offers little advantage when your destination is inside the old town.

According to the race FAQ, race packs must be collected in person at Lazareti, Frana Supila 8, with identification. Half marathon collection is listed for Thursday April 22nd from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, and Friday and Saturday from 10:00am to 7:00pm. There is no race day collection, making your arrival time an important part of the booking.

Aer Lingus serves Dubrovnik from Dublin, with published April schedules showing Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday flights. That makes a Thursday departure and Tuesday return worth considering for this Sunday race. Confirm your dates directly with the airline, including baggage and transfer arrangements, before committing to accommodation.

Make More Of The City

Lokrum Island: Is It Worth Visiting from Dubrovnik?

Dubrovnik deserves more than a hurried lap between number collection and dinner. Walk the city walls at your own pace, look down over the tiled roofs and spend some time in the narrow streets away from Stradun. Save the longer sightseeing walks for after the race if you want fresh legs on Sunday. The half marathon’s Basic package lists admission to the walls and museums, plus a Lokrum excursion and public transport, so check the conditions before buying separate tickets.

For a different view, take the cable car up Mount Srđ. From above, the walls, rooftops and coastline make much more sense together.

Lokrum offers a quieter outing across the water, with shaded paths and space to slow down. Keep the boat trip flexible around sailing conditions. Back in town, leave time for a long lunch and an unhurried coffee rather than filling every hour. The race gives the weekend a purpose; it need not account for every step you take. There is nothing wrong with giving the watch a rest once the medal is around your neck.

Entry Fees And Essential Details

The organiser lists these half marathon rates until November 30th, subject to the allocation remaining available. Prices then rise for the final entry period.

  • Basic package: €60, rising to €70
  • Plus package: €85, rising to €95
  • VIP package: €150, rising to €165
  • Charity 5K: €15

The race page and FAQ disagree on the regular VIP price, so confirm the amount at checkout. Half marathon entries close on March 31st, or earlier if the 1,000 places fill.
